Australian ringneck x Crimson rosella

These hybrids were first reported by R. Fasey in a 1905 article of Aviculture Magazine, “The hybrids have a black head, green wings, and yellow collar as the yellow-naped ; nearly everywhere else crimson, with blue flights as the adult Pennant”. Although the subspecies of australian ringneck was likely different, many of these features can be seen in the pictured individual. The bird’s blue cheeks identify the crimson rosella parent, while presence of dark grey/black coloration without a yellow underbelly identifies the twenty-eight australian ringneck subspecies. Hybrids have also been reported with the mallee and port lincoln subspecies.
