Several different kinds of “opaline” caiques have been proposed over the years, but none have been as convincing as this variety. These opaline black-capped caiques have significant orange and yellow coloration on their chest, thighs, and wings. Like other new world opalines, they are known to have a light-colored bill and feet. Other varieties have mostly lacked these features, probably being forms of pied and recessive edged instead.
