Black-capped caique x White-bellied caique

First bred by Lady Poltimore in 1926, these hybrids are very common in captivity but rarely identified. While many pure white-bellied caiques have orange and black heads as juveniles, hybrids will keep these dark feathers for life. The color of their feet and bill, too, is usually somewhat greyish. The pictured hybrid (left) was bred from a black-capped caique and a green-thighed subspecies white-bellied caique, giving it mixed yellow and green thighs. Given how closely-related these two caique species are, their hybrids are likely fairly healthy and fertile.

I haven’t seen second generation caique hybrids, but they are probably fertile. The two species are closely related.
