Blue and gold macaw x Hyacinth macaw (Caloshua macaw)

These hybrids were first bred in 1963 by Tracy Aviary, Utah. They were the first hyacinth hybrids to be bred in captivity, though even today they remain quite rare. Caloshua hybrids typically have blue, hyacinth-like heads with faded yellow cheeks and strong yellow chest. They are large birds, but notably smaller than most hyacinth macaws.
