Dobie Mottle Budgie

A mottle mutation discovered in 1967 where clear patches grow in size on the body after every molt. It was believed to be recessive by Ethal Dobie, its developer, but may be the result of several genes. Birds with this mutation were known to be very poor breeders and wouldn’t produce a larger percentage of Dobie Mottles even if they showed the trait. Additionally, as their clear markings increased, their vision tended to decline. The variety was passed on to another breeder who was unable to maintain it, and the last of the Dobie Mottles died out in the early 2000s.
