Although illiger’s and severe macaw hybrids tend to look like pure severes, their faces are slightly darker and their shoulders are green. Some hybrids develop a small red crown as they mature. This hybrid is the typical size of a mini macaw and is almost fully emerald green.
A rare hybrid first reported in 1978 by a pair of Pennsylvanian breeders. Illiger’s and yellow-collared macaw hybrids are emerald green with dark faces and faded red on their underbellies. They may have a very thin or nonexistent yellow collar (in this instance being hidden by the wing).
A rather obvious hybrid that has many features from each parent. A bluish forehead and red-orange shoulders are inherited from the hahn’s macaw parent, while a small red crown and larger size are received from the Illiger’s macaw. These macaws are usually bred on accident and are somewhat rare.
These hybrids are rare olive-green birds that look like slim Patagonian conures free of yellow and red markings. A bare patch of skin by the beak leads to the bird’s eye-ring and sharpens into a point like its conure parent. These hybrids are very slender and have mixed-colored bills. A nanday-like hybrid with small indicators of its identity, having a bare patch between the eye and beak, red-orange thighs, and slightly red shoulders. Although its cap remains black, the bird lacks the nanday’s signature blue collar. Only one Illiger’s macaw x nanday conure has been known to exist.
