Recessive Pied Cockatiel

A mutation that can have many different appearances, but tends to be similar to the first image. Heavy pieds (second image, combined with whiteface) are sometimes called horseshoe pieds due to the pattern on their backs. A pied cockatiel completely devoid of pattern is called “clear pied” or “ADM pied” (pictured third). Although they appear similar to lutinos, they will never have red eyes. Cockatiels selectively bred for more yellow are called “primrose” or “buttercup”, which can often be mistaken for liver disease (pictured fourth).
