The first blue rainbow lorikeet was bred in 1993 but was killed by a hawk before it could pass on the mutation. Luckily, blue later reappeared in the species and has since existed in small numbers in Australia. Blue rainbow lorikeets have a violet-blue head, a light blue nape, white chest, indigo belly, and an azure blue tail, thighs, and backside. It has been successfully combined with other mutations, including blue-fronted and grey.
