A Elegant x turquoise parakeet hybrid was first bred sometime before 1938 by H. Whitley in a (probably) mixed aviary. They have yellowish-green coloration with a dark blue forehead and uneven light blue facial patches. Like the turquoise parakeet, they have a bright blue marking along the top of each wing. The pictured hybrid’s red belly is likely the result of an inherited color mutation rather than influence from a different species. It’s believed that elegant x turquoise parakeet hybrids are infertile like other grass parakeet crosses, but this hasn’t been confirmed.
